A child named Fatema Zaman Borno, 2, has died of a snakebite in Magura. The incident took place on Wednesday (26 June) night in Ramnagar village of Sadar upazila. Borno was the daughter of Ayat Ali of that village.

Ayat Ali said that during frequent load-shedding at night he took his daughter out of the house onto the road outside. After a while he took her round the local Ramnagar bazar and came back home. After dinner, when he went to sleep with her, she began sweating heavily and drooling. She died on the way while being taken to Magura Sadar Hospital by easy-bike.

He said that on Wednesday morning, when Borno was being bathed for burial, three bite marks were seen below her right wrist. It is thought she died of a snakebite, but the family could not tell what kind of snake bit her.

Mehedi Rasel, officer-in-charge (OC) of Magura Sadar Police Station, said permission has been given for the body to be buried.
