A young man named Muhammad Sohan, 25, has died of a snakebite in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram. Relatives said that after he was bitten he was treated by a local ojha, a traditional snake healer, instead of being taken to hospital. When his condition worsened he was taken to hospital the next day, where a doctor declared him dead.

The doctor on duty at the emergency department of Lohagara Upazila Health Complex declared Sohan dead when he was brought there on the morning of Sunday, 28 June. He was the son of Zahir Uddin of Mallik Chhobhan Monu Mia Chowdhury Para in Amirabad union of the upazila.

Relatives said a venomous snake bit Sohan near his home on the afternoon of Saturday, 27 June. Instead of going to hospital, he was treated by a local ojha. His condition deteriorated during the night, and on Sunday morning he was rushed to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where the emergency doctor examined him and declared him dead.

Dr Abdullah Al Irfan, Lohagara upazila health and family planning officer, said a young man bitten by a venomous snake had been brought to the hospital, and the emergency doctor declared him dead after examination.
