The three hill districts of Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban cover a tenth of the country's land. Now a leopard has been sighted in a reserved forest in the hill districts, according to the wildlife research organisation Creative Conservation Alliance (CCA).

A camera set up by the organisation has captured images of a leopard on the move. Officials of the organisation confirmed that the leopard was seen in a remote reserved forest of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Shahriar Caesar, chief executive officer of CCA, told Jago News that leopards had been seen in reserved forests of the Chittagong Hill Tracts before as well.

On the morning of Thursday, 26 June, he told Jago News: "We have been working on endangered wildlife in the reserved forests of the hill districts for more than 10 years. There were leopards in these forests before. We saw a leopard in 2015 too, and we had pictures. But the picture we got in 2025 is clear and striking. After we posted it on our Facebook page it went viral and became known across the country."

He said CCA had been researching wildlife conservation for a long time and had also found bears in reserved forests of the hill region. The leopard photograph was captured by the camera in June; the camera had been set as a trap there a month earlier.

"It is now confirmed that leopards still exist in the forests of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. We are not disclosing the name of the area so that hunters cannot find the exact location of the wildlife," the official said.
