The Law Reporters' Forum (LRF), an organisation of journalists covering law, justice, the constitution and human rights, has held its annual fruit festival.

The festival took place in a festive atmosphere on 19 July at the LRF office in the Supreme Court Bar Association building.

Supreme Court judges, senior lawyers, judicial officers of various courts, people from the legal field and law journalists from print, television and online media took part.

Guests exchanged views and enjoyed local seasonal fruits. They said the Law Reporters' Forum plays an important role in building communication, trust and goodwill between the judiciary, the lawyers' community and the media.

Praising the forum's activities, the guests said the organisation has long played an important role in bringing news of the courts and judiciary accurately to the public, and that its contribution to transparency, accountability and public awareness in the legal and justice sector is commendable. They expressed hope that it would carry out its duties with the same dedication and professionalism in future.

The whole LRF office was in a festive mood, with a warm atmosphere of cordiality and professional bonding among the journalists present. Mango, jackfruit, latkan (Burmese grape), guava, pineapple and other local seasonal fruits were served.

The event was held under the overall direction of LRF President Muhammad Yasin and General Secretary Arafat Munna, and under the supervision of forum Vice-President Abu Saleh Rony, convener of the fruit festival sub-committee, and forum Joint Secretary Tanvir Ahmed, member secretary.

Supreme Court judges present included Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore, Justice Md Khasruzzaman, Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder, Justice Biswajit Debnath, Justice Md Bashir Ullah and retired Justice MR Hassan.

Representing the Supreme Court administration were Md Nurul Amin Biplob, acting Registrar General of the Supreme Court (Registrar of the High Court Division), Appellate Division Registrar Ashikul Khabir and High Court Division Registrar (Judicial) Mohammad Shorifur Rahman.

Among senior Supreme Court lawyers attending were Bar Council Vice-Chairman Zainul Abedin MP, BNP legal affairs secretary Barrister Badruddoza Badal, International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam, Supreme Court Bar Secretary Mohammad Ali, senior lawyers Motahar Hossain Saju and Sheikh Awsafur Rahman Bulu, Bar Council members Mohammad Shishir Manir, Nasir Uddin Ahmed Ashim and Mahfuzur Rahman Milon, Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum organising secretary Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal and former district and sessions judge Shahjahan Saju. Deputy attorneys general, assistant attorneys general and lawyers were among about 250 people who took part in the festival.

Also present were former Dhaka Reporters Unity president Elias Hossain, former LRF presidents Ashutosh Sarkar and Hasan Jabed, and former general secretaries Kazi Abdul Hannan, Didarul Alam Didar, Ahammed Sarowar Hossain Bhuiyan, Habibur Rahman and Moniruzzaman Mission.
