Students of an orphanage have rescued a bear cub from a dog attack in the Yangchha area of Lama upazila in the Bandarban hill district. The cub was rescued at around 10pm on Tuesday from the deep forest beside the Jinamezu ashram in Lama upazila.

The ashram's students said they were bathing beside the ashram at night when they heard dogs barking and went up the hill. There they saw the bear cub up a tree with the dogs standing below. They rescued the cub and brought it to the ashram.

Nandamala Thero, principal of the Jinamezu ashram, said the students rescued the cub from the forest beside the ashram at night, and the forest department had been informed. He said the cub was being given milk and other food. "The cub is healthy. It is even playing with all of us," he said.
