A woman named Ashrafia Begum, 60, has been killed in a wild elephant attack in Lama upazila of Bandarban. The incident happened at around 4am on Tuesday.

Ashrafia Begum was the wife of the late Saheb Ali Talukdar of Andhari Jamalpur in Sarai union of the upazila.

Locals said that when people got up at dawn to pray, they saw the woman's house wrecked, with the footprints of a herd of elephants around it. They also found her mangled body at one side of the house and informed the police.

Sarai union parishad chairman Md Farid Ul Alam said a herd of elephants had been raiding the area for several days, damaging many people's homes and crops at different times.

Lama police station officer in charge Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said a police team recovered the woman's body after being informed.
