The forest department has rescued an endangered slow loris from a residential area in Lama, Bandarban. The animal was rescued on Friday afternoon (18 July) from Merakhola Muslim Para in ward 2 of the upazila's Sadar union parishad.

Locals said that the previous night members of Abdul Momin's family in Muslim Para spotted a slow loris in a tree at their home and kept it captive. When word spread, neighbours informed the forest department, and staff of the Lama forest division rescued the animal from the spot at midday and took it into their custody.

Lama divisional forest officer Mostafizur Rahman said the slow loris is in the forest department's custody for now. It will be released in the Matamuhuri Reserve Forest when the environment and circumstances are suitable.
