Two rounds were fired during a scuffle between two BNP groups over picking mangoes in Lalpur, and two motorcycles were vandalised.

The incident took place at around 11:30am on Tuesday (20 May) in the area of Fakir Chand Gosai's ashram in Durduria union of the upazila.

According to local sources, Nasir (35), joint convener of the Durduria union Jubo Dal, and Milton (35), a former member of the union BNP, had been in dispute over control of the Gosai ashram. When Nasir and his followers went to pick mangoes they had bought from the ashram's orchard, Milton stopped them. An argument and scuffle broke out between the two sides.

At one point Milton's followers arrived with local weapons and firearms, fired two blank rounds and vandalised two motorcycles. The sound of gunfire spread panic among people in the surrounding area.

Mominuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalpur police station, said the situation was now under control and a case was being processed over the incident.
