Six hundred fruit tree saplings have been planted in the coastal areas of the Meghna river in Ramgati and Kamalnagar in Lakshmipur. The planting was organised by Pubali Bank PLC on the morning of Monday (4 November).
The organisers said the 600 fruit saplings were planted at 11 sites in Ramgati and Kamalnagar, and the programme will continue in other areas in phases. Priority is being given to planting coconut trees.
Mainul Islam, deputy general manager of the bank's Noakhali regional office, opened the programme.
He said afforestation was part of their social responsibility. Tree planting helps keep the environment in balance, and afforestation is vitally important in coastal areas for coping with tidal surges and other disasters.
