Snakes have spread across Lakshmipur after severe floodwater poured into their holes, and 112 people have been bitten in different parts of the district over the past 10 days. Of them, 80 were treated at the Sadar hospital.

District civil surgeon Ahammad Kabir confirmed the figures on the afternoon of Saturday, 31 August.

According to the civil surgeon's office, large areas of Lakshmipur Sadar, Raipur, Ramganj, Ramgati and Kamalnagar upazilas are waterlogged by the floods. Snakes have come out of their holes and spread. People are moving about through the water, and many are staying in homes that are under water, which has led to snakebites in various areas.

Since 22 August, 112 patients have been treated at four hospitals including the district Sadar hospital: 80 at the Sadar hospital, 7 at Raipur upazila health complex, 14 at Ramganj and 11 at Kamalnagar.

On the night of Thursday, 29 August, a young man named Ahsan Habib Tuhin was bitten by a snake on his way home in the Char Ruhita area of Sadar. Tuhin said there is water in front of his house and a snake suddenly bit him in the dark. He was treated at the Sadar hospital and is now well.

Civil surgeon Ahammad Kabir said people in different areas were being bitten as snakes were carried along by floodwater. "We have enough injections to treat such patients. So far everyone who has been bitten has recovered and gone home. Many went home right after receiving the injection, while some were allowed to go home after 24 hours of observation."
