Villagers in Kalidaspur village of Aria union in Daulatpur upazila, Kushtia, have beaten to death a large cobra along with 13 young ones.

From morning until noon on Thursday (27 June), 13 young cobras, 23 egg shells and one large cobra were found inside a haystack in the area. The snakes were beaten to death.

Eyewitness Manik Chand said two young snakes were seen beside the haystack outside a house in the morning. Several people from the area then moved the haystack and found 14 cobras one after another, beating them to death.

Asked about it, he said the snakes were venomous, so they did not think it necessary to inform the forest department.

Aria union chairman Helal Uddin confirmed the incident.
