Sajeda Begum, 50, a resident of Ulipur in Kurigram, has made news again by climbing to the top of a tamarind tree, a month after she did the same.

The incident happened on the morning of Monday 8 June in the Gorai Anandabazar area of the upazila, and hundreds of curious people gathered to see her.

Locals said Sajeda Begum was seen sitting at the top of a tamarind tree on the bank of a pond next to her house in the morning. As the news spread, men and women from nearby areas crowded there.

Eyewitnesses said that when she saw the crowd under the tree, Sajeda slowly climbed down the branches. After coming down, she jumped straight into the pond beside it, crossed chest-deep water, climbed out on the bank and walked away normally.

Family members said she often behaves unusually like this. They believe some unseen influence or mental distress causes her to do such things.

Her husband, Abu Sayeed, said Sajeda has suffered from various illnesses for a long time and doctors have not been able to diagnose any specific disease. She has been behaving this way for the past four years, he said.

Earlier, on 6 May, after she had been missing for a day in the same area, she was found at the top of the same tamarind tree. Fire service personnel went to the scene to try to bring her down safely, but on sensing the rescuers she came down herself and jumped into the pond.
