A venomous snake came out of the meter box of the moving motorcycle of an NGO worker named Lutfor Rahman in Kurigram. He was not harmed; he stopped the motorcycle quickly and escaped.

The incident took place at noon on Sunday (26 March) in the College Mor area of Kurigram municipal town.

Local people said RDRS worker Lutfor Rahman and his female colleague, branch manager Marufa Akter, were riding into town on the motorcycle on special business from the office in Kanthalbari union. After passing the town's municipal bazar on the way to College Mor, they saw a snake with its hood raised on top of the motorcycle's front meter. When the rider carefully brought the motorcycle to a stop, the snake went back inside. A mechanic was called to get it out, and after about an hour's effort he managed to remove the snake from the motorcycle.

RDRS worker Lutfor Rahman said: "There is jungle all around our office. I think the snake got onto the motorcycle from the jungle. Anyway, Allah saved me."

Mominul Islam, officer in charge (social forestry and conservation) of the Kurigram Forest Department, said he could not say whether the snake was venomous without seeing it. "But at some point the snake got into the motorcycle. It is indeed an alarming incident," he said.
