Members of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali have rescued five snakes of three species at Kuakata in Patuakhali and released them into the wild. The snakes were released into Lembur Forest next to the sea beach at around 2pm on Sunday (19 March).
The released snakes included three seven-foot monocled cobras, one six-foot snake and a Burmese python measuring about 10 feet.
Present at the time were Rakayet Ahsan, team leader of Animal Lovers of Kalapara, Bayezid, and staff of the Mohipur forest office.
Rescued from a street show
Earlier at noon, a snake charmer had been putting on a show with the snakes in the Paikbari area of Mohipur in Kalapara. On receiving the news, the Forest Department and members of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali rescued the snakes from there.
Tarikul Islam, assistant conservator of forests of the Patuakhali forest division, said the Forest Department had rescued the snakes with the help of members of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali, and that the department was active in protecting wildlife.
