A man named Abdur Razzak (58) has died of a snakebite in Talina village of Kotchandpur, Jhenaidah.

The incident happened around 1.30pm on Tuesday (9 July). Abdur Razzak worked as a guard at the MD's bungalow of Mobarakganj Sugar Mill in Kaliganj. He was the son of the late Chhamed Biswas of Talina village.

Locals said that at midday Abdur Razzak was cutting unnecessary branches in his own guava orchard next to his house when a snake bit him on the leg. Realising what had happened, he came home a little later and told his family. He was taken to Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared him dead.

Kotchandpur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Abdur Rashid said he died a few minutes after reaching the hospital. His family said he had been bitten by a cobra. It is thought that he died of a heart attack brought on by panic.
