Dogs are loyal animals, and a dog named Teddy has proved it once again. The German Shepherd gave up his own life to save his owner from a venomous snake.

The snake and the dog attacked each other as the dog tried to save his owner. In the end both the snake and the dog died, but the owner, Selim Reza, was saved.

The incident happened in Kotchandpur upazila around 9pm on 17 March (Thursday). Selim Reza, a farmer, is the son of Abdur Rahman of Balaramnagar village in the upazila.

On Thursday night Teddy's owner Selim Reza and his brother Alim Reza were guarding a potato field. Nearby was a cot for resting, on which the two brothers were lying, with Teddy under the cot. Around 9pm a snake came rushing towards the bed. Seeing it, Teddy chased the snake and the two fought a short distance away. Teddy managed to kill the snake but was bitten by it in the process, and died from the bite.

Selim Reza said: "I bought Teddy for one lakh taka. He was first brought to India and then to Bangladesh in 2019. Because of Teddy, I did not need any labourer to guard the field." Teddy had also kept his family members safe before at the risk of his own life, and once saved his son from being run over by a motorcycle, he said.
