A male mukhpora langur was rescued at noon on Friday (21 July) after a two-day operation in Karimganj and Itna upazilas of Kishoreganj. Officials of the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division caught it and, in the afternoon, handed it over to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur for release.

Nigar Sultana, wildlife inspector of the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, said the langur had strayed from its troop and was roaming freely and causing trouble in Karimganj and Itna upazilas, frightening local people. After the upazila nirbahi officer informed the Forest Department, the division's Dhaka divisional officer Sharmin Akter took the matter seriously and ordered the langur's swift rescue.

Nigar Sultana then led a four-member rescue team on a two-day operation and caught the langur, safe and healthy, in the Chandrapur area of Itna upazila at noon on Friday. It was handed over to the park authorities that afternoon for release.

Md Rafiqul Islam, officer in charge of the safari park, said the park already has six other mukhpora langurs. The one rescued in Kishoreganj will be kept in quarantine at the park and later released into the langur enclosure.
