A young man named Afzal Hossain, 22, has died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Katiadi, Kishoreganj. The incident happened on Sunday night, 22 September, in South Charpukhia village of the upazila's Jalalpur union. Afzal was the eldest son of Md Milon Mia of the village.

Locals said Afzal Hossain was sitting at Kazir Bazar after dusk. When he went into a nearby bush for a while, a snake bit him. He did not notice at once, but the poisoning later worsened. A kabiraj (traditional healer) then performed incantations over him at home.

When the poisoning worsened around 2am, he was taken to Bhagalpur Jahurul Islam Medical Hospital in Bajitpur, where he died at about 4:30am.

Ibrahim Fakir Khokon, member for Ward 3 of Jalalpur union, confirmed that Afzal Hossain died of the snakebite.
