A mango donated to a mosque in Kishoreganj has been sold for Tk 1,600 at an open auction.
The auction took place before Jumma prayers on Friday (10 January) at Laimpasha Paschimpara Baitul-Aman Jame Mosque in Mriga union of Itna upazila, Kishoreganj. The mango was bought by the mosque's imam, Maulana Masum Billah.
"Items donated to the mosque are sold through open auction, and the money is spent on developing the mosque," Maulana Masum Billah said. "There is blessing in buying the mosque's things too. I bought the mango at this price for the sake of that blessing."
Eggs and a lemon at high prices
Worshipper Aktar Hossain said: "Everything donated to the mosque from the neighbourhood is auctioned before Jumma prayers. Worshippers from the area take part and willingly buy at extra prices. Besides the mango, four eggs sold for Tk 200 today. The money will be spent on developing the mosque."
The previous Friday, a single lemon was sold for Tk 400 at the same mosque.
