Seasonal fruit from Bangladesh has been sent as a gift to the Emir of Qatar and the country's prime minister on behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

The BNP said the gift was sent for the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The courtesy gift was sent in particular to express gratitude for the special air ambulance Qatar sent for Khaleda Zia's treatment in London.

The fruit was delivered to Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Doha at around 3pm Bangladesh time on Wednesday, 25 June. It was handed over by Dr Enamul Haque Chowdhury, a member of the BNP chairperson's advisory council. Also present were Bangladesh's ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Nazrul Islam and Qatar BNP general secretary Shariful Haque Saju.

The gift was received on behalf of Qatar's foreign ministry by Ibrahim Yousef Abdullah Y Fakhrul, a protocol officer of the ministry.

According to BNP sources, the seasonal fruit was sent from Bangladesh on Monday. Shariful Alam, BNP's organising secretary for Mymensingh division, was in overall charge of sending the fruit from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
