Farm inputs have been distributed among rubber farmers in the three hill districts.

The distribution was inaugurated on Sunday (14 March) morning at the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board office in Khagrachhari. The board's chairman, Nabo Bikram Kishore Tripura, was chief guest.

Board member Dr Prakash Kanti Chowdhury, executive engineer Mujibul Alam, Jyotish Basu, project manager of the rubber plantation management unit, and other board officials and beneficiaries were present.

Afterwards, a tablet fertiliser for rubber cultivation called Silvamix-40 was distributed to the farmers. Officials said a total of 10 lakh Silvamix-40 tablets would be distributed among 1,600 farmers in the three hill districts, 6,000 pieces each.

Rubber cultivation began in the hills after the 1980s. Rubber is now grown on a total of 13,200 acres in the three hill districts: 10,000 acres in Khagrachhari, 1,200 acres in Rangamati and 2,000 acres in Bandarban. A total of 3,300 families are involved in rubber cultivation.
