A housewife named Rajia Begum, 45, has died of a snakebite in Kathalia upazila, Jhalakathi.

The incident took place in North Checheri village of the upazila on the morning of Monday 9 October. Rajia Begum was the wife of the late Md Kalam Jomaddar of the area. Tapas Kumar Talukder, the Kathalia upazila health officer, confirmed the information to Jagonews.

Her relative Abdul Quddus Jomaddar said that at dawn on Monday, after saying her Fajr prayers, Rajia Begum reached with her foot to pull her shoes out from under the bed, and a snake in a hole there bit her foot. She was taken straight to Bhandaria hospital, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
