The carcass of a wild elephant has been found in Kaptai upazila, Rangamati. It was lying at Motipara Kanthaltoli in Ward 4 of No 2 Raikhali union on Thursday 12 October.
Mongkya Marma, chairman of No 2 Raikhali union parishad, confirmed the matter to Jagonews. He said he learned of the death in the morning through a local union parishad member, but it was not yet clear how the elephant died.
Stroke suspected
Jahidul Islam, Raikhali range officer of the Kaptai Pulpwood Plantation Division, said the elephant died at 8am. After hearing from local representatives, he went there with the upazila livestock officer, agriculturist Enamul Haque Hazari. "The elephant was very old. Initially we think it died of a stroke," he said.
He added that the forest department would file a general diary with Chandraghona police station, and the elephant would be buried where it died.
