An endangered slow loris has been released deep in the forest of the national park at Kaptai, Rangamati.

Kaptai range officer Khandaker Mahmudul Haque Murad released the animal with forest department staff at 10:30pm on Monday, 24 July.

Mahmudul Haque Murad said Ansar members found the abandoned slow loris beside the Bhedvedi Ansar camp in Rangamati Sadar upazila in the evening. They immediately informed the Sadar range of the Chattogram Hill Tracts South Forest Division. The Sadar range officer and his staff rescued it and handed it to the Kaptai range.

On the divisional forest officer's instructions, the loris was released deep in Kaptai National Park at 10:30pm, he said.

Range officer Mahmudul Haque said slow lorises generally cannot see in daylight and move about at night, which is why it was released at night. He said this was the third slow loris released in Kaptai National Park this year.
