Two hill mynas have been released into the forest of the Raikhali range of the Kaptai Pulpwood Plantation Division in Rangamati. The birds were freed on the morning of 11 July in the presence of Nurul Islam, divisional forest officer of the Kaptai Pulpwood Plantation Division.

According to the forest department, its staff rescued the two birds in a raid on Monday night in the Shafipur area of Bangalhalia union in Rangamati's Rajasthali upazila.

Confirming the rescue, Raikhali range officer Jahidul Islam said forest department members, acting on a tip-off, raided the area and recovered the two hill mynas, which were being trafficked through illegal routes. Sensing their presence, the traffickers hid the birds to one side and fled.

Divisional forest officer Nurul Islam said: "Our drives to stop the smuggling of birds and other wildlife will continue."

Dhanuchhari range officer Babul Khisa, Hasan, the officer in charge of the Bangalhalia station, and other forest department staff were present when the birds were released.
