A medicinal tree-planting programme and a free medical camp were held in Kamalapur, Patuakhali. More than 6,000 medicinal trees were planted under the programme.
The programme was held at 10am on Friday (October 24, 2025) on the premises of Kamalapur union parishad.
Organised by Kamalapur natives
It was organised by a voluntary organisation called "Amra Kamalapur Santan (AKSA)", formed by people from Kamalapur union who are in jobs in different parts of the country or living abroad. It was chaired by union parishad chairman Abdul Chhalam Mridha. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ICT and Education) Mohammad Tarek Howlader was present as chief guest, and Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Administration) Md Sajedul Islam was special guest.
The organisers said more than 6,000 medicinal trees were planted with the participation of young men and women, volunteers and villagers, which they said has launched a "green revolution" to protect the rural environment and nature. In addition, more than a hundred poor and needy people received free treatment and advice at the day-long free medical camp. AKSA's health secretary Dr Md Ziaur Rahman and gynaecology and obstetrics specialist surgeon Dr Rifat Tamanna Promi provided the medical care as health experts.
What the guests said
Kulsum Begum, a local woman who came for treatment, said: "I'm very glad to get free treatment and medicine here. It is a great help for poor people like us."
Kamalapur union chairman Md Abdul Chhalam Mridha said this initiative, built with the help of public representatives and local people, would serve as "a model of inspiration for rural development". "I thank everyone in my union for such an initiative," he said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Tarek Howlader said such voluntary initiatives play a big role in society. If people from Kamalapur living in different parts of the country help in this way, the union's needy people will benefit even more, he said.
