A venomous Russell's viper has been caught at a house in Kalapara, Patuakhali.

The snake was rescued on Thursday afternoon, which the report dates as 19 September, from Char Dhulasar village in Ward 1 of the upazila's Dhulasar union. It was rescued by Animal Lover of Kalapara, an organisation that works with snakes and wildlife.

The organisation says it has rescued countless venomous and non-venomous snakes before, but this is the first venomous Russell's viper in Kalapara. So instead of releasing it as usual, it will be sent to a research centre.

Rakait, team leader of Animal Lover of Kalapara, said the snake was found tangled in a net in front of the house. It will stay in the organisation's custody for now and will later be handed over to the Venom Research Centre at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for research.
