Members of the Kalapara upazila unit of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali have rescued a fox that was being sold in Kalapara, Patuakhali, and released it into the wild. The person who had brought it for sale could not be found.

They rescued the fox, which had been hidden beside the road under the upazila's Sheikh Kamal bridge, at 6pm on Tuesday (12 April). The district forest department was then informed, and the fox was released late at night.

Members of the unit present at the release were Rakayet Ahsan, Nazrul Islam, Omar Ali, Hridoy, Jibon and Antor.

Rakayet Ahsan, a member of the Kalapara upazila team of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali, told Jagonews24: "Acting on a tip-off, we learnt that a fox had been brought under the Sheikh Kamal bridge to be sold. We went to the spot and rescued the fox unharmed. Because releasing it in daylight could have put its life at risk, we released it into the forest at night."

He added that the group is working to spread the message among ordinary people that wild animals should not be hunted, carried or treated inhumanely.
