Volunteers of the Kalapara branch of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali have rescued and released a 12-foot Burmese python.

They released the snake with forest department help in the Lemburban area near Kuakata at around noon on Tuesday, 25 July. It had been rescued at around 11pm on Monday, 24 July, from an abandoned house in East Madhukhali village of Mithaganj union in the upazila.

Present at the release were Tourist Police Kuakata Zone inspector Hasnain Parvez, forest department officials, and the organisation's team leader Rakayet Ahsan and members Ariful Islam Shaon, Masud Hasan and Masud Parvez Sagar, among others.

Rakayet Ahsan, team leader of the Kalapara branch, said they rescued the snake from the abandoned house after hearing about it from locals, gave it first aid that night and then released it. "We have rescued a number of wild animals before and released them in the forest. As volunteers, we are trying to conserve wildlife."

Patuakhali divisional forest officer Md Shafiqul Islam said Animal Lovers has long worked for wildlife conservation and done much praiseworthy work, and the forest department supports them at all times. "We should all love wildlife," he said.
