The Coast Guard has recovered 54 sea turtles from a house in Kalapara, Patuakhali, and detained a father and his son.

The raid was carried out at around 2am on Tuesday night (5 October) on a house in the Notun Kathpatti area of the municipal town. The father, Tota Mia (48), and his son Rubel (26) were detained at the house. The recovered turtles and the two detained men were handed over to the upazila forest department at 2pm on Wednesday (6 October).

Lieutenant Tahsin Rahman, media officer of the Coast Guard's South Zone, said the two had been involved in the turtle trade for a long time. They were detained in a raid carried out on a tip-off.

Kalapara upazila forest conservator Abdus Salam Mia said preparations were under way to file a case under the wildlife conservation law. The recovered turtles will be released into the Andharmanik river, he added.
