With the weather on their side, jhum farmers on hills across Bandarban have had a good harvest this year. A photo story by bdnews24.com follows the jhum season in the hill villages of Tonkaboti union in Bandarban Sadar upazila.

On the hills around Notun Romjupara in Tonkaboti, the main crop of paddy has been grown alongside marfa cucumber, maize, sweet pumpkin and other vegetables. The paddy harvest festival is under way on the hilltop, with people of the Mro community busy cutting the jhum rice.

Mro women return from the hills of Pabla Headman Para carrying pumpkins. Pumpkins and pomelos brought down from the slopes are stacked by the roadside for sale.

In the Chimbuk area, a Mro woman sets out bitter gourds picked on the hills beside the road. This is how the jhum crop comes down from the hills to the roadside market.
