A bull named 'Kalapahar' had drawn an offer of Tk 12 lakh in Jashore. Hoping for a bigger profit, its owner, farmer Soumik Ahmed Sagar, did not sell it in Jashore but brought it to the Gabtoli animal market in the capital. After four days at Gabtoli, he has not been able to sell it. The highest offer for Kalapahar at Gabtoli has been Tk 6 lakh.

Sagar also brought another animal of the same size, named 'Big Boss', which has drawn an offer of Tk 5 lakh 75 thousand. Not having got the price he wanted for either, Sagar will wait until Sunday (Eid day) morning. If they still do not sell, he will take them back to Jashore. Jagonews learned this when it spoke to him at the Gabtoli market on Saturday (9 July) afternoon.

Sagar told Jagonews: "I came to Dhaka from Jashore with two cattle four days ago. In Jashore they offered Tk 12 lakh for Kalapahar. I brought it to Dhaka to get a bit more, but here the offers are much lower."

He said: "Earlier they offered Tk 5 lakh to Tk 5.5 lakh, and today the latest offer was Tk 6 lakh. If I don't get a good price I'll take them home. After Eid, when the market returns to normal, I'll be able to sell for Tk 2 to 3 lakh more."

Speaking of his hardship, Sagar said big cattle prices at the market were much lower this time. "Those of us who are farmers and growers will fall into big losses," he said.
