A rat snake about five and a half feet long has been rescued from the room of a professor in the Department of Government and Politics at Jahangirnagar University (JU).

The snake was rescued at 11am on Thursday, 27 August, from the room of Professor Dr Sajedur Rahman.

It was rescued by Ananya Faria, a 49th-batch student of the Department of Law and Justice and general secretary of the JU unit of the Deep Ecology and Snake Conservation Foundation.

Ananya Faria said that in the morning the university's Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Dr Shamsul Alam, phoned to say that Dr Sajedur Rahman had seen a snake in the locker in his room. She went there quickly and rescued it.

"It was a non-venomous rat snake, about five and a half feet long. There is nothing to fear. The snake will soon be released into its natural habitat," she said.
