The Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Chhatra Dal organised a "Seasonal Fruit Festival" for students under the theme "The scent of fruit in the JU courtyard, may the Chhatra Dal festival bring life".

At the festival, held at 2pm on Tuesday 30 June on the university's central cafeteria premises, a variety of local seasonal fruits including mango, jackfruit, latkan and pineapple were served.

Speaking at the opening, JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said: "What I consider important is the coexistence of students at Jahangirnagar University, which is very important for education. Today's fruit festival is part of that. I am very happy that Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Jahangirnagar University has excelled in this understanding. I hope those who come in future will continue this trend."

He added: "Today's invited guests are the general students of Jahangirnagar University. This event has proved that Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal is committed to moving forward not only with its ideological comrades but with all the students of the university. I believe such social events will increase."

JU Chhatra Dal convener Zahir Uddin Babor said: "We always design our programmes with an eye to keeping this university student-friendly and its normal academic activities going. Today's fruit festival is part of that. The festival was mainly organised to strengthen harmony and mutual goodwill among the different stakeholders of Jahangirnagar University."

Md Mominul Islam Shaon, education and research secretary of the Jatiya Chhatra Shakti JU unit, said: "I thank the brothers of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Jahangirnagar University for such an event. We also see them welcoming leaders of other student organisations and showing hospitality. I commend this politics of coexistence."

Nadia, a first-year student of the Department of Management Studies, said: "For those of us who are new, the event was very interesting. We hope for more like this from them in future, and thank them for organising it."

Also present were JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Treasurer Prof Dr Md Abdur Rob, and JU Chhatra Dal convening committee members Mohammad Rajon Mia and Md Abdul Gaffar.
