A two-day fruit and pitha festival has been organised on the Jagannath University (JnU) campus at the initiative of Riasal Rakib, a member of the convening committee of the JnU unit of Chhatra Dal. The event in front of the university's Central Shaheed Minar ran from 10am to 1pm on Sunday (21 September).

About three thousand students were served two kinds of pitha and five kinds of fruit, including malta and pineapple. The organisers said the event would continue in the same way the next day (22 September). It drew a strong response from students.

Mohon, a 2023-24 session student of the sociology department, said such an event at an unusual time was truly praiseworthy. Eating pitha and fruit reminded him of his village, and such festivals should be held from time to time, he said.

Another student, Nafis, said the fruit was delicious and it felt good to eat in such a festive atmosphere. Chhatra Dal's initiative undoubtedly deserved praise, he said.

Riasal Rakib said Chhatra Dal had various plans for students' welfare after 5 August, and the event was part of them. "We had a good response from students since the morning. They enjoyed the fruit and pitha in a festive atmosphere. Chhatra Dal will always work for students' welfare, and students will find us beside them in any situation," he said.
