The Islamic University unit of the volunteer organisation Come for Road Child (CRC) has held a seasonal fruit festival for underprivileged children.

The organisation held the event on the campus at around 11am on Saturday, 5 July.

The organisers said about 20 kinds of fruit, including mango, jam (black plum), jackfruit, lychee, guava, pineapple, dragon fruit, banana, papaya, grapes, cherries and amra (hog plum), were distributed among the children.

The organisation's general secretary, Md Mashiur Rahman, said: "As representatives of society, we are working on a small scale. We want society to think about these children not just for one day but all year round."

Its president, Md Imdadul Haque, said: "Through this small festival we want to bring a little smile to the children. May this event inspire them to become well educated. Everyone in society should stand by these children."

CRC IU unit president Imdadul Haque, general secretary Mashiur Rahman, publicity secretary Saifunnahar Lucky, former president Abdullah Parvez and former general secretary Umme Habiba Happy were among those present.

CRC began its activities at IU in 2016 with the slogan "Let us stay united and make the world free of street children". The organisation has been carrying out various activities to establish the basic rights of street children and underprivileged children.
