A langur came to an animal hospital for treatment. Unbelievable as it sounds, this really happened at the upazila livestock officer's office in Jhikargachha, Jashore, at midday on Sunday (12 April).

Upazila livestock officer Masuma Akhter said someone had probably recently struck the langur on its hindquarters with a sharp weapon, and since then it had been looking for a hospital to get treatment. Before this, the langur had also gone to the Jhikargachha Upazila Health Complex and Jhikargachha police station. On Sunday it finally found the livestock officer's office and veterinary hospital.

She said the langur first sat on the table in the treatment shed. Not liking it there, it went into the pharmacy room, opened various medicines, sniffed them and ate some. When it was then offered treatment, it agreed, and the wound was cleaned with povidone-iodine. The langur stayed quiet throughout. Veterinarian Masuma Akhter said the animal behaved the whole time like a person who cannot speak.
