India's agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the purchase of pulses and oilseeds worth ₹5,547.99 crore at minimum support price (MSP) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the 2026-27 kharif marketing season in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana, Global Agriculture reports.
The procurement covers tur, moong, soybean and sunflower and is meant to support farmers if market prices fall below MSP.
Uttar Pradesh has the largest share, ₹3,992.57 crore: 4,66,000 tonnes of tur worth ₹3,937.70 crore and 6,250 tonnes of moong worth ₹54.87 crore.
Karnataka gets ₹1,107 crore: 1,15,500 tonnes of soybean worth ₹659.27 crore, 38,250 tonnes of moong worth ₹335.83 crore and 13,413 tonnes of sunflower worth ₹111.90 crore. Telangana gets ₹448.42 crore: 62,000 tonnes of soybean worth ₹353.90 crore and 10,766 tonnes of moong worth ₹94.52 crore.
The agriculture ministry said the decision is meant to strengthen farmers' economic security and support domestic production of pulses and oilseeds, part of India's push for self-reliance in pulses and edible oils. Chouhan said buying at designated centres would be transparent and payments would go directly into farmers' bank accounts on time.
