Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed said he had asked cattle traders about everything, including the market fee (hasil), their food and health guidelines.

"From past experience I can say many traders fall ill after eating food, so I talked to them and found out about the food too. I also checked whether traders were having any problems with their money," he said.

The IGP spoke to journalists on Saturday (9 July) afternoon after visiting the Kamalapur sacrificial animal market in the capital. "I talked to everyone, buyers and sellers, and asked about all their concerns," he said. Other officers were also present with him.

On 6 July the IGP said no extortion from vehicles carrying animals would be tolerated, at the quarterly crime meeting of police officers from across the country at the Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium.

There, instructing that police be deployed in uniform and in plain clothes at animal markets, IGP Benazir Ahmed said vehicles carrying sacrificial animals must not be stopped or checked without a specific reason. He also instructed police officers to visit sacrificial animal markets.

The IGP said the Eid journeys of people heading home must be made smooth. Vehicles such as karimon, nosimon and bhotbhoti will be barred from highways. He instructed field-level officers to enforce government directives on long-distance motorcycle travel.
