Pledging to make the country greener, IFIC Bank has launched a month-long tree-planting programme across Bangladesh. It is being held under the slogan "Let trees be life's shadow-companions", with the aim of building a prosperous Bangladesh for the future.

At 11am on Wednesday, 26 July, IFIC Bank managing director and CEO Shah Alam Sarwar and noted theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar formally opened the programme by planting forest, fruit and medicinal saplings on the IFIC Tower premises. The programme will run at the bank's 1,300 branches and sub-branches.

Shah Alam Sarwar said staff at branches and sub-branches across the country had begun the planting in a festive atmosphere and that it would continue for a month. To keep the greening going, free saplings will be given to various organisations.

Cultural figure Ramendu Majumdar welcomed the bank's environmental initiative, saying its plan to distribute free saplings alongside planting at its branches was praiseworthy.

IFIC Bank's deputy managing directors and other senior officials were also present. The main aim of the programme is to help build a sustainable Bangladesh and raise public awareness of the harmful effects of climate change.
