Serve Hilsa Roe Bhuna With Hot Rice

Hilsa roe can be cooked into a rich bhuna in a few simple steps, and fish roe also carries a number of health benefits.

Everyone loves the taste of hilsa, and roe-laden hilsa is a particular favourite for most people. You may be surprised to learn that fish roe is also very good for your health.

Fish roe benefits the heart, eyes, bones and brain. It also lowers blood pressure, helps with sleeplessness and eases arthritis.

Many people cook hilsa roe in different ways. If you like, you can easily make hilsa roe bhuna, which tastes wonderful. Here is a simple recipe.

Ingredients


  • Hilsa roe: 4 pieces
  • Chopped onion: 2 cups
  • Turmeric powder: half a teaspoon
  • Chilli powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder: half a teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Mustard oil
  • Lemon juice: 1 teaspoon

Method


Put a frying pan on the stove and heat enough mustard oil. Add the chopped onion and fry. When the onion turns light brown, add a little water, then add all the spices one by one.

Stir for a while. Add salt and water as needed and cook the spices down well. Then add the roe to the spice mixture and cook on a medium flame for a while.

Add a little more water if needed. Once the roe has cooked into the spices, add water and let it cook. When the gravy dries up, stir in 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and take the pan off the heat.

Serve the mouth-watering hilsa roe bhuna with hot rice. It is a dish you can make very easily.
