Hatsun Agro, Odisha government and SBI launch Go-Dhan to back 6,000 dairy farmers

Dairy company Hatsun Agro Product has launched Go-Dhan with the Odisha government and State Bank of India to help 6,000 dairy farmers in 15 districts get loans, subsidies and better herds over three years.

Hatsun Agro Product Ltd, one of India's large private dairy companies, has launched an initiative called Go-Dhan with the government of Odisha and State Bank of India (SBI) to help dairy farmers set up and expand their farms, Rural Voice reports.

The programme, launched at the OUAT auditorium in Bhubaneswar, aims to reach 6,000 dairy farmers in 15 districts, in phases over three years. It will help farmers get bank finance and government support for better breeds of cattle, cattle sheds, farm machinery, feed and animal health, and will draw on state subsidy schemes including the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana.

Chairman R. G. Chandramogan said the company plans to support more than 6,000 dairy farms and promote scientific dairy farming, which he said can give farmers a stable income. The company also aims to build a dairy value chain in Odisha by buying milk locally to supply the state and neighbouring markets.

Hatsun already buys milk directly from more than 500,000 farmers, according to the company, which says that experience will help it run the programme.

State officials at the launch included Prem Chand Chaudhary, secretary of the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, along with the managing director of the state agribusiness agency APICOL and SBI chief general manager Rakesh Kumar Yadav.
