Grameen Protein has formally launched as a deshi (local) chicken brand, with an inauguration on Wednesday (30 April).
The brand's founder and CEO, Md Imran, attended the event. The chief guest was Md Sohrab Hossain Mehedi, founder and CEO of BestBazar.
Md Imran said: "Our aim is to bring deshi chickens raised by village farmers to the doorsteps of city people. We want every family to be able to get healthy, nutritious food."
Grameen Protein will collect deshi chickens directly from Kalmakanda, Durgapur and Purbadhala in Netrokona district and from hill areas, and supply them to Dhaka. The venture aims to strengthen the rural economy while bringing natural, nutritious deshi chickens to urban consumers.
Md Imran added that Grameen Protein plans to expand its supply network to other parts of the country and improve product quality through processing.
Agricultural economist Prof Dr Md Sadrul Amin said such initiatives would open new economic horizons for Netrokona district. With strong demand in Dhaka for the area's deshi chickens, interest in raising chickens is growing in every village household, and women in particular are becoming financially self-reliant, he said.
