A mobile court in Gouripur, Mymensingh, has sentenced factory owner Md Dulal Uddin, 50, to three months in jail for making adulterated juice. He was also fined Tk 1 lakh and the factory was sealed.

The drive was carried out on Tuesday afternoon (4 March) in Ruknakanda village of Dauhakhala union in the upazila by assistant commissioner (land) Sunanda Sarkar.

The convicted owner, Md Dulal Uddin, is the son of the late Afaz Uddin of Kaliakair in Gazipur district. He had been running the adulterated juice factory for a long time.

Assistant commissioner (land) Sunanda Sarkar confirmed the matter to Jago News. She said the raid found that mango juice and other soft drinks were being made only with harmful chemicals. Fake juice was being filled into the bottles of various well-known brands and sold. A search of the entire factory found no trace of mango, and the factory had no approval.

Owner Md Dulal Uddin was therefore sentenced to three months in jail and fined Tk 1 lakh. The juice bottles and the chemicals and colours used for making juice were destroyed, and the factory was shut down.

Members of the army, the National Security Intelligence (NSI), officials at various levels of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and police were present during the drive.
