Nature is fragrant with fruit, and the season has brought a colourful spread of flavours. At Gono University in Savar, the Gono University Journalists' Association (GOBISAS) organised a "seasonal fruit festival" to share the sweet and sour tastes of the season, and a tree-planting programme to make the campus greener.

On the afternoon of 19 June, the association held the fruit festival at its office in the university's academic building and planted fruit and flower trees at various places on campus, completing its programme for the year.

The festival featured mangoes, jamun, jackfruit, guavas, lychees, latkan, amla, dragon fruit and other fruits. Deans of several faculties, heads of departments, teachers, administrative officials, leaders of various organisations, well-wishers and members of the association attended. Fruit was also distributed among the university's security guards, night guards and field staff.

Professor Nilufar Sultana, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, said: "As every year, GOBISAS has organised the seasonal fruit festival. We are celebrating this month together, which is joyful and memorable. We believe GOBISAS will keep up this festive tradition."

After the festival, trees were planted in the afternoon in the presence of vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Abul Hossain and treasurer Professor Sirajul Islam.

The vice-chancellor said: "GOBISAS plants trees every year, which is very commendable. Everyone should plant more trees to help keep the environment in balance and to make the world beautiful and green."

GOBISAS president Sanjida Jannat Pinky said: "GOBISAS always tries to play a responsible role towards society, the environment and values. As every year, we organised the fruit festival and tree-planting programme. Students' participation in the festival and the sight of trees being planted on a green campus have filled us with new hope."
