Two teachers of the same madrasa have died after being bitten by a snake in their sleep in Gomostapur, Chapainawabganj. The incident happened on the night of 6 August in Jinarpur village of Parbatipur union in the upazila.

They were Jobayer Hossain (28), son of the late Ahmad Hossain of Bishupara village in Bagmara upazila, Rajshahi, and Rasedul Islam (30) of Kashidanra village in Porsha upazila, Naogaon. Both taught at Iqra Qawmi Model Madrasa in Jinarpur village, Gomostapur upazila.

Gomostapur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mahbubur Rahman said the teachers were asleep in their room on Sunday night when a snake bit both of them. Their colleagues first took them to a village kabiraj (traditional healer) to draw out the venom. They were then taken to the Nachole Upazila Health Complex, where Rasedul Islam died. After first aid, the other teacher, Jobayer, was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he died under treatment at around 11.30am.

He said Rasedul Islam's body had been handed over to his relatives, while Jobayer's body was at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
