A child named Rifat (8) has died of a snakebite in Gomastapur, Chapainawabganj. The incident took place at around 4am on Tuesday (27 May) in Sagrail village of Radhanagar union in the upazila. Rifat was the son of Ukil Uddin of Sagrail village.
Locals said a snake bit Rifat while he was asleep at around 3:30am. His relatives took him to the upazila health complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead at around 4am.
Gomastapur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rais Uddin confirmed the incident. He said he had heard of the child's death from snakebite and that necessary steps were being taken.
