A housewife named Rasheda Begum (32) has died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha.

She died at dawn on 7 August in Chhoyghoria village of Mahimaganj union in the upazila. Rasheda Begum was the wife of Ashraful Islam of the village.

Relatives and local people said a venomous snake bit Rasheda Begum on the foot at around 8pm on Sunday as she was returning from a neighbour's house. Thinking a rat or shrew had bitten her, she did not take it seriously and lay down in bed. About an hour later, as the venom took hold, she began to scream.

Her relatives rushed her to the Gobindaganj upazila health centre, where the doctor confirmed a snakebite and advised taking her to Bogura quickly. The family admitted her to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where she died under treatment at dawn.

Mahimaganj union parishad chairman Md Anwarul Islam Pradhan confirmed to Jago News the death by snakebite of the housewife, a mother of two.
