Two hilsa weighing two kilograms nine grams have been caught in the Padma river at Goalanda, Rajbari. An expatriate living in America then bought the two fish for Tk 15,950. He is from Khulna.

Fisherman Nirob Howlader brought the fish to the Daulatdia area of the upazila at midday on Wednesday, 3 September, and people crowded round to see the large hilsa.

The two big hilsa had been caught in the net of Nirob Haldar that morning. Fish trader Samrat Shahjahan Sheikh of Daulatdia No 5 ferry ghat then bought them at a rate of Tk 5,200.

"Large hilsa are not always available, so when the size is a little bigger the price is higher too," said Samrat Shahjahan Sheikh. "I bought the two hilsa, nearly three kilograms in size, for Tk 15,080, then contacted an American expatriate from Khulna by mobile phone and sold them to him for Tk 15,950."
