For the first time in Bangladesh, modern technology-based farming has been set up in three large glasshouses at Senbari in Trishal, Mymensingh. The project opens possibilities for export-oriented agribusiness as well as safe food production, Shykh Seraj reports.

Developed countries long ago began technology-based farming in controlled environments to reconcile two opposing demands, higher output and safe food. In this era of climate change, industrial entrepreneurs have begun greenhouse farming to build a sustainable agricultural economy.

Sourav Agro Limited has started the country's first glasshouse agriculture at Senbari, Trishal. In three glasshouses covering a total of 66,000 square feet, high-value crops are being grown under automated management, with Chinese horticulturist Chao working as a consultant.

Entrepreneur M. Rashiduzzaman Millat believes such initiatives will help reduce import dependence and expand export-oriented agribusiness at a time of economic crisis around the world.
